Booster Vaccines Can Be Administered Starting in the First Quarter of 2022

The administration of a third dose of vaccine or a booster dose can be hastened. According to Australian Griffith University epidemiologist Dicky Budiman, the first quarter of 2022 is a pretty good time.

“Because there is already a lot of data that our immunity is reduced. Especially because the majority of Indonesians receive the Sinovac vaccine,” explained Dicky yesterday (6/11). Berita Terkini

Until now, continued Dicky, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as various developed countries have given the green light to three vaccine brands for booster doses. Namely, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The three vaccines, said Dicky, have been proven to be safe and effective, even for individuals who previously received Covid-19 vaccines from different brands.

To re-boost antibodies and protection, Dicky stated that one dose is enough. Antibodies are thought to last relatively long. “Although it remains to be seen how it develops in the real world,” he said. Berita Politik

A Covid-19 booster injection is an additional dose given after the protection gained from the complete initial injection begins to wear off over time. Boosters are designed to help people maintain longer levels of immunity. Berita Hari ini

In addition to the three brands above, Dicky said that there was indeed a discourse on giving a fourth brand, namely Zifivax. However, Zifivax as a booster still requires more data. According to reports, Zifivax has an efficacy of up to 78 percent for the Delta variant. Injected as many as three doses with a duration between injections can be up to four months. “However, if Zifivax itself is administered as a vaccine in three doses, there is already data that confirms its efficacy and safety,” said Dicky.
